Chow Pei Chow Pei Chow Chow / Shar Pei Hybrid Dogs The Chow Pei is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Chow Chow and the Shar Pei. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. Char, the Chow Chow / Shar-Pei mix at 3 years old. "I got her from a Shar-Pei breeder that had an accident with a Chow. Some of Chars brothers and sisters had long hair like a Chow but I liked the short hair. She has grown out of most her wrinkles but does have a lot of loose skin."
"I adopted a dog from a rescue organization. The veterinarian for the Rescue stated he believed Lily was a Shiba Inu/Basset Hound mix. I then took Lily to my vet of 25 years. He also felt Lily is a Shiba Inu/Basset Hound. Where ever I take her, people always stop me and ask what kind of dog she is as she is quite unique. Even the Shiba Inu owners stop and ask if she is a Shiba Inu. I then paid $80 to Canine Heritage to try and find out her breeds. I had to do a swab inside her cheek and send it in. I did not send a picture on purpose. I just got the results and the analysis was Chow Chow/Shar-Pei. How shocked was I ?? Although, she does have one spot on her tongue that is black... a very small spot the size of a nickel. I understand Chow Chow's have black tongues. I looked up Shiba Inu's and she looks exactly like them... as far as color and her hair. She does have wrinkles in her forehead and a lot of loose skin around her neck but her body is long and her paws are those of a Basset. She is so wonderful with my ferret and she found a baby kitten in the woods."
