Rescue Ad FAQ

Can I have more than one rescue ad page?

Yes, you can have more than one rescue ad page to allow you to list multiple animals that need homes.

To open a second ad, login to your current ad page and click the “Create New Ad” link in the yellow options on the left.

Or you can create another ad by going to
http://www.rescueinfocenter.com/register.php

How can I tell if I ran an ad before on DBI?

If you are not sure if you ran an ad on DBI and would like to check, go to the Lost Password page located at http://www.rescueinfocenter.com/index.php?page=password. Enter the email address you would have used for that ad. It will then tell you if that email address is in our system and if it is, it will email you all usernames and passwords for any ads you ran under that email address. You can then login to any of those ads to check the status of the ads (if they are turned on or off).

The signup form will not take my email address, why?

Common mistakes when typing in your email address into the signup page:

1. Make sure you are typing your email address exactly the same in both email fields.

2. Make sure you are not including any spaces before, after or in the middle of your address.

3. Make sure you are typing your full address, for example: username@provider.com. Be sure to include the extension, for example: .com, .net, .org, .ca, etc.

4. Make sure you are not entering in www before your address. (You would be surprised how many people do this.)

Can I update my ad page?

Yes, you can update your ad page by going to the login page. Enter your username and password. After logging in, orange and yellow options will appear on the left. Use those options to navigate through your account. Dog Breed Info Center® does not update ad pages. This is something you must login and do yourself.

What is the Multi-Ad Access option?

Multi-Ad Access allows you to access and manage more than one ad from a single login. To access more than one ad from a single ad page, simply login to one of your ad pages, click the Multi-Ad Access link, and enter the username and password of the ad you would like to access. This ad will be added to a list of ads you can now access from this account. You can manage any ads you put on the list simply by choosing the ad you wish to update in the drop-down menu near the top of the page, or by going to the Multi-Ad Access page and clicking the ad name. Whichever ad is highlighted in pink on the Multi-Ad Access page or displayed in the drop-down menu will be the ad the orange options on the left will access. You can then use the orange options on the left to update the selected ad.

The list and the drop-down menu will appear on the Multi-Ad Access page only after a second ad is accessed on that particular ad account.

Not sure if you have run more than one ad on Dog Breed Information Center®? Visit the lost password link http://www.rescueinfocenter.com/index.php?page=password. Enter your email address (the one you use for your ad page) and an email will be sent with your username and passwords for each of the ads you have run under that email address. Login to one of the ads, click the Multi-Ad Access link and enter any additional usernames and passwords to add those ads to your list.

I have more than one rescue listing. How can I easily update them?

By using the multi-ad access feature. Login to your rescue listing from http://www.rescueinfocenter.com/index.php?login=1&s_login=siteadmin (you would usually login to the first ad page you created). After logging in, orange and yellow options will appear on the left. Click in yellow where it says "Multi-Ad Access". Here, you should see a list of all of your ad pages, the categories they are listed under and their status.

Click on the ad name you wish to update. Whichever ad is highlighted in pink is the ad the orange options on the left will update. You can also switch from ad to ad by using the drop-down menu at the top of the page inside the blue border. Whichever ad this menu is set on is the ad the orange options on the left will update.

NOTE: If you do not see a list of all of your ad pages inside Multi-Ad Access, enter your username and password to any missing ad where it says "grant yourself access to another Ad". If you do not know all of your usernames and passwords you can have them emailed to you by going to  http://www.rescueinfocenter.com/index.php?page=password. Be sure to enter the email address you are using on your ad page.

How do I change my password?

To change your password, login to your ad from http://www.rescueinfocenter.com/index.php?login=1&s_login=siteadmin.  After logging in, orange and yellow options will appear on the left. Click in orange where it says “Update Personal Info”. Change your password, and then click the “Update Info” button.

What is the difference between the info I input in the Personal Info section and the info I input in the Ad Info section?

Your contact information is listed in two spots: under "Update Personal Info" and "Insert Ad Text". Information listed in the "Update Personal Info" field does not show up on the Internet. This information is used by us if we need to contact you, for example, if we send out an administrative email, it would be sent to the email address you have listed in the Personal Info section. Your confirmation emails also get sent to the email address listed in the Personal Info section. All information listed under the Ad Info section is what will show up live on your ad for the world to see. NOTE: We DO NOT sell or share your personal information. It is there strictly for our own use in case we need to contact you.

I updated my info yet it is not showing up when I view my ad, why?

Here are the most common reasons this may happen:

1. You updated your ad text but you never scrolled down and clicked the “update” button after typing in your new text.

2.  Your contact information is listed in two spots: under "Personal Info" and "Insert Ad Text". Information listed in the "Personal Info" field does not show up on the Internet. This information is used by us if we need to contact you, for example, if we send out an administrative email, it would be sent to the email address you have listed in the Personal Info section. Your confirmation emails also get sent to the email address listed in the Personal Info section. All information listed under the Insert Ad Text section is what will show up live on your ad for the world to see. This means if you change your email address under the Personal Info section, it will not be changed on your live ad page until you manually go in and do so.

How much does it cost to update my listing?

Rescue ad page updates are FREE, however you must do it yourself. The Dog Breed Information Center®  Rescue Listing is designed for quick and easy self-updates. You may login to your account at any time, as frequently as you wish. If you find any part of the ad program difficult to understand, email DBI at and let us know. We'll do our best to make it even easier to use.

How many breeds or other categories can I have per ad page?

You may have up to 20 categories per ad page. This means your ad will show up under these categories. For example, rescues would choose the different types of dogs they have available. If they have a Labrador/German Shepherd mix, they would want to choose both the Labrador and the German Shepherd categories. If you need more than 20 categories, the additional categories must be listed on a separate ad page.

I lost my username and or password, what should I do?

If you lost your username and or password you can have them emailed to you by going to the lost password page. You can find the Lost Password link located on the login page right below the password field.

How many photos and how much text can I have on my ad page?

Each ad page is allowed up to five photos and five areas of text. You will notice when you login to update your text and or images they are referred to as Image 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 and Text 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Image 1 goes with Text 1.
Image 2 goes with Text 2.
Image 3 goes with Text 3.
Image 4 goes with Text 4.
Image 5 goes with Text 5.

How do I upload or change my images?

You can upload new images or change existing images by logging into your account and choosing the "Upload Ad Images" link in the orange options on the left. Click the "Browse" button, find the image on your own computer and double click it, much like you would do if you were attaching a photo to an email. Click the “Upload” button.

Why am I having trouble uploading my images?

The most common reasons for not being able to upload an image are the following:

1. The file size of your image is too large. If you are attempting to upload a large image our program will automatically resize your image as it is uploading to 400 in width and or 400 in length maintaining the aspect ratio. The larger your image is the longer it will take our program to resize it. Please be patient and wait for the photo to finish uploading. It may take a minute or two depending on your internet connection and the size of the image. Please Note: When uploading an image to the logo section, if your photo is larger than 800 x 250, our program will resize your image to that size. Images smaller than the sizes noted above are not resized by our program, they will be uploaded as is.

2. Your image is saved in a format that is not Internet friendly, such as bmp or tif. Images should be saved in a JPEG (.jpg) format. If you try to upload an image that is not in JPEG format the program will tell you the file size is too large.

3. When trying to upload the image if you get the error: "The file you are trying to upload is the wrong type! We only take jpg, gif, and png files. Your Type is:" but the image you are trying to upload is a .jpg image, try resizing your image. When a large photo is uploaded, the program tries to resize the image for you. When your photo is too large, the program has trouble and gets confused during the resize process. This is especially true for those uploading the picture right from the digital camera itself. Try resizing your image before uploading.

4. You are trying to upload an image to the breeder listing directly from a flash drive. Pulling photos directly off of a flash drive can corrupt the image. Try saving the photo onto your desktop. Preview the photo to make sure the photo is not corrupted. If the photo looks OK, try uploading the photo from your desktop and not from the flash drive. Make sure the file size of the photo is not too large and is in JPEG format.

5. Be sure to only click the “upload” button once, as clicking it more than once may corrupt the image.

Example of a corrupted photo.

This photo was downloaded directly from a slow drive. In the process, the photo became corrupted. The copy of the photo that is still on the drive is good quality; it is the process of copying it to the new location where the photo becomes corrupted.

How do I add or change my text?

You can edit or change your ad's text by logging into your account and choosing the "Insert Ad Text" link in the orange options on the left. Be sure to scroll down and click the "Update" button near the bottom of the page after making the text changes.

How do I add different fonts, colors and sizes to my ad pages text?

You can change your font, font size, add color and highlight specific words on your ad pages using the HTML editor. Please note: You will only be able to use the Editor if you are working from a PC with an Internet Explorer browser. If you do not have a PC or if you are not using Internet Explorer you will not be able to see the Editor, however, people viewing your ad who do not have a PC or who are using a browser other than Internet Explorer WILL still be able to see the new font you create.

To use this option, login to your ad page from http://www.rescueinfocenter.com/index.php?login=1&s_login=siteadmin. Enter your username and password. After logging in, orange and yellow options will appear on the left. Click “Insert Ad Text” then click "edit using HTML editor".  Use the editor to make your text as you see fit. When you like what you see click the "Update" button. The editor will then add the correct HTML language to your text box.

If you know how to hand-code HTML, the text boxes will accept it.

Why do some people have an Email Form on their ad pages while others have a Direct Email link?

Dog Breed Information Center® uses a contact form to send enquires from your ad page to you, rather than display your email address directly on the ad page. We do this because of the spam problem. Spammers and scammers scan the Internet using a scanning robot collecting email addresses. They store them in a big database and sell your address to other spammers and solicitors. You, in return, get a lot of junk spam and scam emails. By not showing the email addresses on the ad pages it protects you as a lister from this type of spam/scam collection. Anywhere your email address shows on the Internet leaves you open to this type of collection. We choose to not let it happen on this website. Besides cutting back on spam, another advantage to using the email form is people can still contact you if they are using a computer without an email account set up on it, such as at a library. And yet another advantage to the form: when using the form, the person contacting you will not have your email address unless you choose to reply and answer their email.

However, there have been requests to give the option to show the email address as a link rather than using the form. With the form, the person has to type in their email address twice and if they do not match the inquiry does not go through and they are asked to type it again. However, it is still possible the person is new to the Internet and does not know their exact email address and may type it wrong twice, which would make your reply to them bounce, not having the person’s correct email address.

We added to the program a way for you to have a choice. Your ad will be originally set up to use the email form and NOT show your email address. If you like the idea of SHOWING your email address instead of using the contact form, thus possibly lessening the chances of a bounced email, login to your ad and click in orange where it says "Insert Ad Text". Check the appropriate option that you wish to use, scroll down and click the “update” button. You may also choose to display both the email address and the form, letting the person choose which they wish to contact you with.

Can I place my ad on hold?

Yes, you may turn your ad OFF. Simply login to your ad and click in orange where it says "Turn Ad On / Off".

To turn your ad off or on, login to your ad page at http://www.rescueinfocenter.com/index.php?login=1&s_login=siteadmin. Choose the “Turn Ad On/Off” option in the orange options, which will appear on the left after logging in.

This feature also works great for times when you go on vacation and do not wish to be bogged down with email when returning. Simply turn your ad OFF while you are away.

How do I delete my ad?

To delete your ad, login and click in orange where it says "Turn Off/On Ad". There you will see an option to turn your ad on, turn it off or delete your entire page. Whatever ad page you are currently logged into is the ad page it will delete. Please be aware, once an ad is deleted it will be gone forever. There will be no way to bring it back again. If you ever want to open up another ad you would need to fill out the application again.

How is the order of the ads determined?

The order of the rescue ads randomly rotate. Everyone will see the ads in a different order at any given time. Meaning, while you may be seeing your ad near the bottom, at that exact moment someone else may be seeing it on top.

How will I know when my ad expires?

The ads do not expire, however you will be able to login and "Turn your ad Off" and "Turn your ad On" with a simple click of the mouse.

What is a Username

A username is a word that you choose that is unique to you. It is an extra security to go with your password. One has to match your username and your password to login to your account. Please note: your username cannot have any spaces or symbols in it and is case sensitive. All usernames must be unique, meaning someone else may not be using the same username that you have chosen.

I am trying to set up an account and it says my username will not go through.

Your username can only be one word, with no spaces and no symbols. There cannot be two exact usernames in the system so if it says "Duplicate Username" you have to backspace and choose a new username. You may want to think about adding a number after the name you have chosen, for example: if you have chosen the username "Dog" and it tells you "Dog" is a duplicate name, you may want to use "Dog2".

I am thinking about running an ad but I do not see my breed’s category listed.

When you sign up you will have an option to pick 20 categories out of a long list provided.  As soon as you finish signing up your ad will be live and your category will show up. The categories you see on the Internet are the ones we have rescues signed up under. A category will not show up until there is an ad placed under that category. This saves people time as they will not click on an empty category.

How much does an ad page cost on DBI?

Can I reset my counter to 0?

Can I take the hit counter off my ad page?
