Crane Fly

Crane Fly on top of a paper

The crane fly is in the Tipulidae family. They have also been called mosquito hawks, mosquito eaters (or skeeter eaters), gallinippers, galnatchers, and jimmy spinners. Crane flies can have very long legs and might look scary to some, but they do not bite.

Crane Fly on a desk

This crane fly was found on the outside of someone's refrigerator door in eastern Pennsylvania, USA. The fly's legs were so long it was hard to get a decent close-up picture of the body with the legs still in the picture.
