Harley the Boston Mastiff Terrier at 5 years old—"Harley's mom is an 18 pound Boston Terrier named BB and dad is a 180 pound English Mastiff named Gus. Harley is 100 pounds of smart, gentle, loyal, attentive, sensitive, full of love kind of dog. His body is super sized but, his head is a mix of both parents. He is a bit shy around new people and dogs. He loves cauliflower, broccoli and green beans steamed in chicken broth. He loves park walks at least twice a day. No real bad habits other than getting pouty when left at home, and not wanting to go to the vet. Somehow he always knows!. From puppyhood he has always walked next to me, never pulling on his leash. He learned sit, stay and heel very early. He has no interest in fetch or chasing balls, but will retrieve his pool toy until we stop throwing it. I do think Harley is balanced as a canine because he seems to accept me as alpha, is happy to see dogs and people he knows, is indifferent towards dogs he doesn't know."
The Boston Mastiff Terrier is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Boston Terrier and the English Mastiff. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.
