Sweet Pea the American Foxhound / Lab mix puppy at 1 years old—"She was rescued at 3 months old. She was healthy and clean, but spent her days and nights in a small cage. Also (we Hope for medical reasons) they docked her tail extremely short. Her life with me began in a semi truck, so she explored different places every day, our favorite were open fields and snow. When we came home she was completely different. I had constant chores and she tormented our other dog and our cat. She had room to run indoors and delighted in it. Playing fetch was a favorite and she loved to carry long sticks. Now, at home, and 1 yearr old, fetch is ok for 1-3 throws, then she is through with it. She has taken to chewing on the carpet and anything that tears easily. Toilet paper etc. We walk daily , but are not able to do more than 30 minutes very often. We live on 2 acres and 1/2 acre is fenced. I encourage her to run full out as much as I'm able, 3-4 times a day."
The American Lab Foxhound is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Labrador Retriever and the American Foxhound. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.
