Balder the Beauceron sitting outside on a driveway with its mouth open and tongue out

Balder the Beauceron at 1 1/2 years old—"Balder is a high energy, goofy, and eager to please dog. He learns all of his tricks in just a few tries, and these include (but are not limited to) waving hello, opening doors, spinning circles, "dying" when "shot" (mock howls of pain included), and jumping through hoops. He has a high herding drive and is scheduled for his first livestock herding classes next month. For as rough and tumble as he can be when playing with adults, he is equally gentle and patient with kids. He regularly stands statue still while my toddler cousin shakes his tags like a rattle. Balder has lived happily in Alaska, Oregon and Nevada. He enjoys playing with his best doggie friend, a Great Dane, running on the beach, eating french fries, schmoozing at the farmers market, chasing coyotes, and playing fetch. He dislikes lettuce. He is an obedient dog, and some of his good habits include only chewing up his own toys, not climbing on the furniture, and waiting for permission before eating food, getting in/out of the car, and going through doorways. A bad habit of his, is that he likes to run up to and bark at dogs that are acting skittish. Balder gets at least one walk every day (usually more) and is usually out for a total of between one and five hours a day. If there is a series of one-hour-walk days, he gets a bit stir crazy. I live in an apartment, and with enough exercise, he is just fine. he is quiet, non-destructive, and calm while in the house. However, you HAVE to be able to GUARANTEE at lease 14 hours of stimulating outdoor exercise a week for him to be his good-dog self. Even switching up three or four different parks throughout the week is boring for a Beauceron! He is a well behaved, active and social dog. Positive reinforcement and rewards are the best motivators for him. He is very intelligent, and tennis ball and treat driven, which makes for easy training!"
