"This is my 1-year-old Border Collie named Boots. Bought from a rural ranch in Idaho, we brought him into the city as another addition to our family. What we didn't realize is that Border Collies are hard work! Holes appeared all over our yard within days because he was getting bored too easily. Taking the initiative, everyone took their turns with taking him on daily walks and jogs. After a week or so, we noticed an immediate shift in behavior. The digging stopped and Boots became the sweetest boy we've ever had (only as long as he got his daily walks)."
"Boots experienced snow for the first time. I could barely get him back inside!"
Mabel the Border Collie—"A whoppin’ 29 lbs. and fully grown at 8 months old! What a cutie! Mabel was turned into the local shelter at 8-9 weeks of age. The owners were "allergic"—I think it was allergies to her high energy! I was only supposed to foster her and then find her a home, but when I went to adopt her out, I couldn't do it. She has been with us ever since. Mabel is full of spunk! I never knew Border Collies were so much fun!!!"
Mabel the Border Collie as a puppy at about 8 weeks old—"Herding Mode: This pic was taken the first day we had her!!! She is going after my terrier mix Bentley as he chases the ball. I guess her instinct works!"
Mabel the Border Collie puppy at about 8 weeks old sleeping—"I think we tired her out finally! I didn't think it would be possible."
"This is Bordeaux, our rather laid-back 4-year-old red Border Collie. He is unusual because both his eyes are a beautiful light blue. Bordeaux Maletti lives in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. On his face, the brown only covers his ears, leaving his face white, which has resulted in beautiful blue eyes. His hearing and eyesight are perfect as he is not albino."
"He works hard—mostly on his language skills. An excellent student, at 3 years old, he had a confirmed vocabulary of 106 words to which he responds with distinct actions (I have stopped counting now), for example, "High Five"—he lifts his left paw high in the air, "Shake hands"—he lifts his right paw gently. He is a very calm, laid-back dog until the words "ball," "flies," "frogs" or "rats" are heard, at which point he stands, alert, ready to run outside and look for whichever one you have mentioned to him."
"He finds agility stimulating, but not as rewarding as his weekly plunge into the sea—he just charges down the beach and swims out past the breaking waves, then back in, until he is exhausted. When he was 9 weeks old, he was so tired at the beach that he didn't even wake up when I put a sausage in his mouth, so I took this picture. He sleeps so soundly after exercise that he flaked out on his dog food one day, too."

Border Collies are so smart they need to be kept active with some type of job or activity. If you decide on a Border Collie do not expect it to lie around the house day after day. Plan to take it out OFTEN for some one-on-one activity.
