Chance the American Rat Terrier x Maltese mix (Ratese) at 7 months old—"He has a Soft Maltese non-shedding coat and a great temperament. He weighs 12.5 pounds at 7 months."
The Ratese is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the American Rat Terrier and the Maltese. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.

Wally the Ratese (Rat Terrier / Maltese mix breed dog) at 8 months old—"He weighs 12 lbs. and isn't expected to get much bigger. He is often confused for a Jack Russell Terrier, however he is an American Rat Terrier / Maltese mix. He is high energy and playful. In fact, the first time I tossed a toy he instinctively retrieved it, and dropped it on my lap. He is mischievous and a bit of a digger, but his favorite playmate is my 62-lb., 21-month-old Catahoula / Lab mix. Even though she outweighs him by 50 pounds, he keeps right up with her. Even on our runs."
